Installing a new wastewater treatment process with pipework, launders and supports. Systems included feed, aeration, sludge, water level correction, dosing, and discharge, with associated pumps and valves.
Challenges
Loads at fixings for new supports and structures to be within allowable loads of existing concrete tanks. Avoiding existing concrete joints and reinforcement. Design and construction running in parallel. Reducing construction cost and fabrication times by designing for minimum material thicknesses and using non-standard section sizes.
Hugh Munro Role
Mechanical and structural design. Providing full design calculation reports for independent review. Model piping system and develop isometrics. Carry out pipe stress analysis and specify anchor details, locations and bellows arrangements. Developing structural drawings with connection and fixing details for drop boxes and launders with integrated support arrangements. Redesign as necessary when existing construction joints and reinforcement were encountered during installation.
